A website that looks nice but never brings in enquiries is one of the most common problems we see. Usually the issue is not one big thing. It is a handful of small ones that add up. Here are the most common reasons a business website does not generate leads, and what to do about each.
1. It is slow, especially on mobile
If your site takes more than a few seconds to load on a phone, a large share of visitors will leave before they see anything. Compress images, remove plugins you do not need and use good hosting. Test your site with Google PageSpeed Insights and fix the biggest issues first.
2. Visitors cannot tell what you do in five seconds
Your homepage headline should say clearly what you do and who you help. “Excellence in every project” tells a visitor nothing. “Commercial cleaning for offices in Manchester” tells them they are in the right place.
3. There is no clear next step
Every page should end with an obvious action: call us, book a free consultation, get a quote. Put a contact button in your header so it is always visible, and keep forms short. Name, email, phone and a message box is usually enough.
4. There is not enough proof
People need a reason to trust you. Add real reviews, client logos you have permission to use, short case studies, photos of your team and work, and any relevant certifications. Proof placed next to your contact form is especially effective.
5. All your services are crammed onto one page
A single “Services” page listing everything you do is hard for visitors to scan and hard for Google to rank. Give each main service its own page with its own headline, details, FAQs and call to action. That is exactly how we structured this site.
6. Nobody can find it
A great website still needs traffic. If you are not showing up on Google for the searches your customers make, start with basic SEO: one clear target phrase per page, helpful content and a properly set up Google Business Profile.
7. Leads are coming in but going cold
Sometimes the website is working, but enquiries sit in an inbox for a day before anyone replies. By then the prospect has often called a competitor. An instant automated reply and a simple follow-up sequence can recover a surprising number of these leads. Here is how our AI automation handles it.
A quick checklist
- Loads in under three seconds on mobile
- Clear headline that says what you do and for whom
- Contact button visible on every page
- Short contact form and a clickable phone number
- Reviews and proof near every call to action
- One page per main service
- Every enquiry gets a reply within minutes
If your site ticks fewer than five of these, a rebuild may be worth more than another round of ads. See how we approach website development, or book a free call and we will review your site with you.
